Abstract: Porous carbon materials have been successfully applied to commercial supercapacitors as the main electrode material for double layer capacitors. However, as electrode materials, the disadvantages of pure carbon materials, such as hydrophobic surface, high internal resistance and low capacitance, have constrained their further development. In recent years, with the rapid development of supercapacitors, nitrogen-doped porous carbon materials as their electrode materials have attracted extensive attention from researchers, and a series of nitrogen-doped carbon materials with different structures and excellent performance have been successfully synthesized using different preparation methods. Based on the latest research progress of nitrogen-doped porous carbon electrode materials for supercapacitors, the basic existence form of nitrogen in carbon materials and its influence on the performance of carbon electrode materials are firstly introduced, then the preparation of nitrogen-doped carbon electrode materials is reviewed with emphasis, and finally the development trend of nitrogen-doped carbon materials for supercapacitors is summarized.
